Well, Ok. My friend’s aren’t really all that rowdy, but we do have an enormous amount of fun at our get-togethers. Capturing those moments in my “Friends Day” video made my day.
February 4th, 2016 marks Facebook’s 12th birthday and they dubbed it “Friends Day.” To celebrate the powerful connections people make, Facebook enables its users to create a video collage from their photo favorites.

As I sorted through photos to edit this video, I felt overwhelmed by emotions. Yes, Facebook, my friends ARE awesome. By friends, I mean the people on that friend list. Many friends also hold the title “Family.” I viewed photos that I hadn’t seen in years. Some of them were bitter-sweet. Some were photos of people who were once important to me and now, we don’t speak. Some people had passed on. Most photos really prompted memories of happy events, though. I got to relive some of our parties, our fun outings with friends, and memories I had forgotten to remember.
Making Your Own Friends Day Video
To make yours, look for the occasional link at the top of your Facebook News feed, click the “View Yours” button on the bottom of your friend’s video, or just visit the creation page directly. Of course, Facebook randomly generates photos from your friend’s list and inserts them into your Friends Day video by default. However, you can edit your video and choose other, more meaningful photos. You can also replace the text slides. A really creative person could create their own slides to truly personalize their video. I liked mine so much that I downloaded it posted it to YouTube so it wouldn’t disappear on me. Look for the download link under “options”. Then, when the video re-opens in that page, right-click on the video and click save. Thank you Facebook for making that possible.
For brevity’s sake, Facebook limits how many photos and friends you can feature. I wish that I could have added more people and more images. I would have added my sister, but I don’t really have that many recent photos of us together. On the flip side, my video would have been a small novella instead of a 15 second stroll down memory lane. One thing is clear. I am truly blessed to have so many people who I cherish. This video drove that home.
I don’t know how long Facebook makes this feature available, but it was available on 2/4/2016.
