Lauren Kay Single Mama Album Debut Party

Last night, David’s cousin, Lauren Kay, invited us to her sophomore album release party. Lauren Kay released “Single Mama” in January and celebrated last night at the Malibu on Old Gulf Beach Highway in Pensacola, Florida.

I was really blown away. I had heard some of her studio releases before, but she’s honestly one of the best local artists that I have seen grace a stage in a very long time. Her notes rang clear and she engaged the audience. She also played almost entirely original material. Instead of taking a “short pause for a worthy cause” during set breaks, she actually mingled with the crowd.

Lauren Kay’s Band

Lauren Kay shared the stage with the amazingly talented David Glencoe (whom I had the pleasure of hearing about 20 years ago) and Mel Knapp (a local bassist). She also invited special guests Robin, who played a mandolin (how unique is that?), and Christina Christian to break things up. The three women harmonized beautifully.

Right now, if you sign up for her newsletter, you can download a free mp3 of “Float”, one of her latest songs. This song touched me so deeply, right where I was sitting. She wrote “Float” after waking up from a nightmare where she about someone chasing her. She heard God tell her that He was there and he would carry all her fears.
