I am proud to host this sponsored blog post in honor of International Women’s Day.

Ok. You know I love ThredUp. You’ve read my posts bragging about my sexy new duds from them. I wholeheartedly embrace their second-hand first philosophy. Not only is second-hand clothing more inexpensive, it’s also better for the environment because it keeps used clothing out of the landfill. Don’t worry, though. Second-hand doesn’t mean second-rate. All the clothing in my orders arrived in practically new condition. Some of it even had tags! And, ThredUp sells only style-conscious, fashionable brands. Wow!

But, enough about the quality. Obviously, I love their brand name clothing and reliable quality, or I would stop bragging about them so much because I never promote something I don’t believe in.  Seriously, I feel like a fangirl. Well, maybe I am – just a smidge. But, want to know makes me even more enamored with any company? When they are not only eco-conscious but also socially conscious. And, ThredUp just pulled out all the stops!

My personal hero for International Women's Day - Grace Hopper paved the way for women in IT by developing some of the first computer compilers! My college days would have been much more complicated without her! She was also a rear admiral in the Navy!
My personal hero, Grace Hopper.

March 8th is International Women’s Day, a day meant to acknowledge women’s achievements and contributions the world over. I mean, where would be today without modern conveniences like the dishwasher or solar heated homes? Yep, both inventions by women. My hero is Grace Hopper, though. She paved the way for women like me in the IT field. Her development of early computer compilers led to the development of machine-independent programming languages like COBOL. Her work is such an integral part of the computer world, that the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center named a supercomputer after her. Because of her brilliance, universities conferred 40 honorary degrees to her and Yale named a college after her.  She also served in the US Navy as a Rear Admiral!

Shop Her Closet for International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, ThredUp is throwing a Shop Her Closet party! For this campaign, ThredUp hand-selected 30 inspiring women who routinely provide them with adorably stylish clothing. These women include a famous actress, fashion executives, and even a very stylish stay-at-home mom! But in addition to recognizing strong, stylish women, ThredUp plans to donate 100% of the profits to Girls Inc.

Girls Inc encourages the young Grace Hoppers to grow up strong, independent, and educated. Girls that participate in this program are less likely to engage in risky behavior, giving them a better chance for a thriving future. The program encourages healthy living, offers academic support and encouragement, and teaches everyday life skills.

So how much is ThredUp donating? 100%!  The whole enchilada. Everything! All the proceeds from the Shop Her Closet event!

What Do I Plan on Buying?

At the end of last year, ThredUp added jewelry!  So, I bought several pieces. Costume jewelry is one of my favorite accessories. It’s inexpensive, fun, and usually pops with color. I’ll likely buy some more. Aren’t these beautiful? I think I want to pick up a couple of tops to match. While I love blue and green, I just don’t have much of it in my wardrobe.

I found this piece at our local thrift shop. It’s a beautiful floral silver-toned floral with delicately colored green and blue stones. It just screams summer at me! This piece needs earrings to match – and a bracelet. So, I’ll be hunting for those when I go on my ThredUp shopping spree.

I mean, it is for a good cause and the prices are so low on high quality, fashionable pieces that I don’t feel guilty about getting myself a few things.

So, what about you? What kind of pieces will you buy from the Shop Her Closet event? OH! BTW, if you aren’t already a registered, sign up for ThredUp and get $10 off your first order! They have beautiful clothes for women and children – and you will support a great cause.

We love purchasing items second hand. There are so many great styles available in second hand stores that we may not have available in any type of local store. It is like searching for that treasure.
