June! Summer! Time for new clothes. I don’t run out and buy clothes just because the season changed, but this time last year, I weighed 55 pounds more than I do now. I NEED a new wardrobe.
I love cute clothes, but I hate shopping. Also, the sticker price at the register is so shocking you can use the receipt as a defibrillator. So what’s an agoraphobe cheapskate like me supposed to do?
After my brief love affair with StitchFix, I decided their clothing and prices just weren’t for me. I didn’t like not being able to choose apparel myself.
I found ThredUp and am in heaven. ThredUp recycles and refurbishes pre-owned designer women’s and children’s clothing and sells them for yard sale prices. Sometimes, they even have clothing that still has the price tags! Right now, receive $10 off your first order. Pssst! They offer much of their clothing for less than $10.
ThredUp only carries designer clothing and has an amazing array of styles and sizes for women and children. You can even search for Petites, Talls, and maternity! By consigning garments and reaching a larger audience, they are keeping the material out of the landfills.
ThredUp makes shopping hassle-free, too. If you aren’t completely satisfied with your order for any reason, you can return it. They even pay the shipping. You just print off the return label. Stick it to the box. Pop it in the mailbox. And, their customer service is fantastic. I had several questions, and they responded quickly and with enthusiasm.
So… what did I get? Check out these fabulous clothes.
The Dress and Shoes
As my friends gasp in surprise, I give you… the dress! I don’t wear dresses. I’m not a girly girl. However, when I saw this cute little Asos number, I had to have it. It was new, with tags and normally retailed for almost $200. I got it for $27.49.
This dress deserves heels. I owned one pair of high-heel boots which did not match this dress, so I also picked up the sexy little Henry David shoes. Usually, they retail for $208. (See what I mean about sticker shock?). I snagged them for less than $20. They were not new, but they were in nearly perfect condition. Had someone gift boxed them, I never would have known.
Designer Tops I Found on ThredUp
Summer means short sleeves and spaghetti straps. The black Max Studio top typically sells for $71. I snagged it for $16.99. It fit a little big, so I returned it for store credit, but the quality was perfect.
The bright teal Express top? I kept that one. It goes with jeans so well. ThredUp labeled this top “Gently used with minor signs of wear (minor fading, minor pilling).” Honestly, I’ve looked this shirt over every inch and can’t find what they are referring to. It looks brand new to me.
Summer Shorts
I am all about the shorts, now! I would have worn shorts to our wedding had I thought I could get away with it.
My favorite pair is the red Billabong shorts. I just adore the ties on the legs and the cute cutoff look. These were labeled used gently used with minor signs of wear (minor fading, minor fraying). I couldn’t find any fraying or fading – unless they were talking about the cutoff look. These $40 shorts were only $7 bucks!
Overall Impression
I’m quite impressed with this California-based start-up company. The clothing quality far exceeds my expectations, and their prices for high-end designer clothing blows my socks off. Since it’s summer, I don’t need socks anyway. They clash with my flip-flops.
If you want to give them a try, you can get $10 off your first order. Outfit your kids for summer without having to drag them to the store or get something for yourself, ladies.
Keep them in mind for upcoming school clothes shopping, too. It’s a great way to satisfy that teen drive for designer clothes on off-brand budget.
My only complaint is that they do not sell men’s clothing. But they do carry just about every women’s size from 0 to 16 and XS to XXL, including petite, tall, and maternity sizes. In kids clothes, they carry a wide selection of items in sizes from preemie to size 20. ThredUp also sells women’s and children’s shoes.
OH! If you have a closet full of clothing you don’t wear anymore, they may even buy it from you. Be sure to check that out when you are checking them out.

June 10, 2016 - 4:03 pmHuh, I keep getting emails from ThredUp because my youngest daughter had referred me to it, since she has been finding some great clothes there for herself and her girls (my adorable granddaughters).
But yeah, congrats on your weight loss! That’s about what I need to lose, as well. You look great in your “new to you” clothes. Guess it’s time for me to check it out!
